TAKING ACTION IN THE OUTBACK: Award-Winning Director Johnny Balazs On NIGHT SHIFT, Filmmaking, Fandom And Fortitude

The last few years have proven helpful in discovering talent out in Australia, and not without some serious internal effort for that matter on the part of its select residents. Characteristically, Australia is just one example out of many in the world in which a demographic of inspired, up-and-coming creatives work and do their best to thrive in their field of choice, which is film. In parallel, however, the land down under also has its share of setbacks - specifically pertaining to the business stimulus of producing local action films. Melbourne-based filmmaker Johnny Balazs is just one out of the pressing handful of talents working and shaping himself around a lens to change this.
"The term independent action cinema doesn't exist in Australia." says Balazs. "I would often ask people name one action film that's Australian that you remember and can recall in the last 5 years. Most say Fury Road, but that's not Australian money, that's not Australian deal…

GINTAMA 2 Signals The Fans With A Teaser Announcement!

And just like that, we have a teaser for Fukuda Yuichi's upcoming Gintama 2 ahead of its August 17 release. Your guess is as good as mine on what's to come following last year's Benizakura treatment and though it looks more of an announcement sans any new footage there might be, it helps to see something. Even the logo looks pretty dang spiffy.
As for the players: Oguri Shun, Masaki Suda and Hashimoto Kanna all reprise their roles based on the hit manga from Sorachi Hideaki with Sato Jiro, and even the enigmatic "Elizabeth" also returning to star.

MILE 22 Teases Mark Wahlberg As The Final Option On The First Official Poster

I've been waiting with baited breath for something to surface for Mile 22 and we finally have our first glimpse of the action with an official poster. Fandango bared the key art via social media hailing the return of Mark Wahlberg to the big screen on August 3 with a cast that includes Ronda Rousey and international action star Iko Uwais.
The film was written by Graham Roland and Lea Carpenter and tells the story of an elite American intelligence officer who, when aided by a top-secret tactical command unit, tries to smuggle a mysterious police officer with sensitive information out of a foreign country. Also starring are John Malkovich and Lauren Cohan, and all the hard-hitting action and thrills one might hope for between now and its forthcoming VR tie-in, The Kiev Exchange, arriving on STXsurreal later this year.
Check out the ink below and stay tuned for a teaser, because it's about goddamn time this happened!

SENSE8: The Cluster Is Back In A Brand New Poster!

Regardless of the reasoning behind the sudden cancellation last year of the hit Netflix series, Sense8, it wasn't something fans were going to let go of so easily. Thus, the powers that be, implored by a fervent global calling, led to the gracious fruition of a two-hour finale now turning the wheels on its campaign with a brand new poster ahead of its June 8 release.
As such, it was in 2015 that Sense8 kicked off a wave of award-winning sci-fi fandom from the minds of the Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski. Telling of a cluster of 8 people all born on the same exact date and of the same age with a unique DNA, the story spanned globally into the lives of these eight people who discovered a sudden ability to psychically connect and ultimately come to the aid of one another in times of need as an evil doctor conspired to hunt them down and kill them.
The show brought two great, eclectic, energizing seasons ripe with action and drama weighing equally on themes of love, pride, equalit…

LIVE!: Aaron Eckart Thriller Adds Courtney Eaton For Shoot In May

Marauders and Extraction helmer Steven C. Miller will go before cameras in Alabama next month to helm The Solution Group's action thriller, Live!. Borys Kit's exclusive at The Hollywood Reporter confirms the news which sees Miller replacing award winning second unit action directors/stunt coordinators Darrin Prescott and Wade Allen for what would have been their directorial debut.
Eckhart retains his involvement on the film since 2015, starring now alongside Mad Max: Fury Road co-star Courtney Eaton for the story of Kyle Penny, a disgraced cop with only eighty minutes to live while in search of the police commisioner's after daughter trapped somewhere in the city. With her abductor dead and a serial killer on his tale, his only hope lies with a young, ambitious reporter who wishes to film his chase with a live camera streaming in real-time for the world to see.

VENOM: Tom Hardy Parleys With His Inner-Killer Alien In The Official Trailer

Save for those who've read "Lethal Protector" and "Planet Of The Symbiotes", it still stands a mystery as to how Ruben Fleischer's new comic book movie, Venom, will pan out by its October 5. What's not a mystery anymore is just what justice, exactly, lead actor Tom Hardy might do when he dons the iconic character himself in full bloom - which he finally gets to in the newly-released trailer now here following its CinemaCon airing and a pre-emptive online leak. And the newest poster is no joke either!

Tom Hardy is joined by Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze and Reid Scott for this latest R-rated bit of fanfare inspired by the Marvel Comics' 1984 Spider-Man offshoot which became official in title in 1988. For this, time will tell how long it'll be before we witness actor Woody Harrelson spawning the red symbiote as Carnage following rumors that sprung earlier this month which subsequently took a life of their own. Otherwise, that'll be n…

THE HIT LIST: April 23, 2018

There is a LOT to sift through this week with the Hit List. I almost thought I wouldn't be able to make it because of all the content and information I managed to come across but I think I accomplished a little something-something!

As always, it's another round of energizing stunt, training and performance reels by some of today's amazing creatives and up-and-coming professionals. John Soares was a terrific find for me in the last few years with the long-awaited release of feature steampunk sci-fi, The Danger Element. He starts off the week followed by cosplayer and actress Erin Haus who has certainly earned a rightful place in the Hit List a few times in recent history, and you're more than welcome to look her up online as Hausplay when you get to it.
Rounding out the playlist are Timothy Parsons, Ruben Maldonado and Romanian stunt sibs Daniel and Adrian Bondor, with Aline Mayne,Walter Dodson, John Gilbert, Kate Angus, Marques Archie, Timothy Eulich, David Miller, She…

FAST & FURIOUS Saga Swerves To Netflix

I'm inclined to wonder if Netflix's plans for an animated serial spin-off to Universal Pictures's hit Fast & Furious franchise will have the same trippy video game-esque visage as the opening and closing credits for the films. Apart from that, a press announcement on Monday is also revealing a photo that could lend a closer idea in that department which you can see above; I actually thought a live-action drama might have been the way to go for all of Vin Diesel's moves to TV in recent memory, but I guess not.
Alas, the streaming service is teaming up with DreamWorks Animation Television in this, the first series in an expansion of their ongoing multi-year deal for original animated kids and family programming. The update comes following Comcast-NBCUniversal's acquisition of the animation studio in 2016 with the former maintaining a First Look with the option to expand on Universal film properties such as the one launched in 2001 before becoming the global phen…

Steven Seagal Thriller, ATTRITION, Gets A Full Trailer

It's no easy feat to accomodate actor Steven Seagal given recent headlines pertaining to his career of yestertear and certain allegations that have gone public earlier this year. Nonetheless, Cannes attendees looking toward next month can expect Saradan Media to make a presence with their roster of projects with at least two bearing Seagal's name.
For this, we have Covert Operation director Mathieu Weschler on the way back to the masses with upcoming action thriller, Attrition. Seagal, who has been shepherding the film for several years and serves as producer, stars in the film as a stoic former soldier, reawakened with a peaceful life in Asia where he'll reunite with his former team of badasses when a desperate father alerts him of his gifted daughter's kidnapping at the hands of an ailing, seedy and ruthless crime boss.
Seagal is in ample company as well, joined by nothing short of a top notch horde of action cinema headliners to bookend the cast including Louis Fan…
